Years ago the Atlantic profiled Harvard University’s study of 268 men over the course of their lives. For one man’s 70th birthday, his wife asked friends, colleagues, and loved ones to write him letters of appreciation. She bound them in a book, some 100 in all. When the researcher asked the man what was in the letters, he paused and got tears in his eyes. “I’ve never been able to bring myself to read them,” he said. It was too much love; he couldn’t bear it (M. On a weird weather day, in the midst of a difficult time for our denomination, whilst flu and cold season has some of us down, and others of us can hardly wait for Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's live performance at the Oscars and are hence, a bit distracted: Come and see about an encounter with God. We know that God makes the sun rise on both the evil and the good and sends rain on both the righteous and the unrighteous (Matt 5:45). But grrr.

Before Dr. Trudie Kibbe Reed became a tenured professor and a university president, she served 18 years as a senior level administrator with The United Methodist Church. At age 28, she became the youngest CEO (General Secretary) elected. Later, with the General Council on Ministries, she developed and implemented programs for agencies and schools across the nation. ***She led and coordinated the denomination’s first national initiative in prison ministry, deaf ministry, and ministries by, with, and for older adults.*** From the bottom of our American Methodist heart, thank-you Dr. Reed!

Sidney and Jane Jones of Greensboro, NC welcomed Robert E. Jones into the world on February 19, 1872. In 1920, Jones along with Matthew W. Clair (pictured) became the first black bishops of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Bishop Robert Jones helped found Gulfside Assembly. It was the only place in the United States where African-Americans had access to the Gulf of Mexico for vacationing and recreational purposes. God rest his soul and nourish our faith, with his story!
